    Dev-Team Taking a Timeout?

    Everyting! 3 Comments »

It appears that the dev-team is going to delay their release of the iphone 3gs jailbreak.

Spock said it best: “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few…”

    Summary:
We can jailbreak the 3GS right now. But making our jailbreak public at this point in time would benefit relatively few people. It would in fact be detrimental to many more people than it would help. So we feel it’s best to keep our version of the jailbreak out of Apple’s sights for the time being.

    Details
:If you already have a 3GS phone and have already done a full USB dump or captured your img3’s signed with your ECID, then you’re in great shape. You will always be able to jailbreak. But many people who plan on getting a 3GS do not yet have one. For instance, many people are waiting for their existing contracts to mature to the point where they get a price break on the 3GS. Many people are trying to sell their 3G before they can buy the 3GS. There are parts of the globe where you can’t even buy a 3GS yet! The reasons are varied, but they are many.

The nature of the 3GS hardware allows Apple to stop IPSWs from being usable unless you’ve already gotten the signed chunks they send to you based on your ECID (a unique chip ID). You cannot get these signed chunks without knowing your ECID, and you don’t know your ECID until you’ve bought your 3GS.

The jailbreak requires at least one signed iBoot-family img3 for your device. And that iBoot needs to have an exploitable bug. It’s an all-or-nothing deal…you either have your signed exploitable iBoot ready to use, for now and forever — always jailbreakable — or you have nothing.

Here’s the critical point, the reason why we’re delaying our version of the jailbreak: Once the jailbreak is out, Apple will fix the iBoot-family bug we use to accomplish it. They will simply stop signing the old iBoots and only sign the fixed ones. If you bought your phone after Apple has done this, there’s nothing you can do…the jailbreak isn’t going to work for you.

It is possible that Apple will find the bug we use without our handing it to them on a silver platter (via a public jailbreak). In that case, we will have delayed our jailbreak for “nothing”. But we’d rather be safe than sorry!

Apple is surely coming out with a 3.0.1 firmware release shortly. They need to fix ultrasn0w. They need to fix some UI issues. 3.0 is buggy and 3.0.1 is coming. We’re going to wait and see what 3.0.1 brings before figuring out the release date for our version of the jailbreak.

In the meantime, we have some remaining 3.0 jailbreak issues to investigate, including push notification. Thanks for being patient with us while we took a 3GS “timeout”!

Apparently GeoHot is making some progress with the 3gs jailbreak.  He inserted a custom command to iBoot, so he must’ve found a way to bypass sigchecks. Which is good news :).

EDIT: GeoHot has posted the ramdisk key.

3.0, A Jailbreak, AND an Unlock What A Great Week!

    Everyting! 1 Comment »

As many of you know iphone and ipod touch OS 3.0 was released wednesday. It included many new features such as: Cut Copy and Paste, Landscape view in email and messages, Push notifications for apps, and mms for the iphone (although att doesnt support it yet).  This upgrade is a great improvement to the already great OS.

The iphone dev team has been working very hard over the past few week to release a Jailbreak for 3.0 and I’m happy to announce that today they released it to the public. Although this WILL NOT work for the iPhone 3GS it will work on the iPhone, the iPhone 3G, and the 1st  and 2nd generation iPod Touch. It is called redsn0w and a tutorial can be found here

The Dev Team is also going to release their newest unlock for iphone 3.0 called Ultrasn0w. This will allow the iPhone to be unlocked. If you are an iPhone 3G user and you rely on yellowsn0w to get service you shouldn’t upgrade to 3.0 until ultrasn0w is released.

The Dev Team also says if (big if) the iPhone 3GS can be jailbroken then it can be unlocked on 3.0.

    iPhone 3G[S] V.S. iPhone 3G

    Everyting! 12 Comments »

If you don’t know about the great news you are living under a rock! Yesterday on June 8th 2009 Apple announced the new iPhone at WWDC. The iPhone 3GS, “S” is for speed. This was a very big event and made the audience go crazy. This new iPhone has so many new features that we have all been waiting for. I’m going to be doing a head to head comparison with the iPhone 3G to the iPhone 3GS.
    PRICES:
Lets start out with the prices. When the iPhone 3G was first announced it cost $199 USD for the 8GB and now it is only $99 USD! now there is no 16GB or 32GB for the iPhone 3G. The iPhone 3GS is also very good priced. The 16GB cost $199 and the 32GB is $299, and yes there is no 8GB but I’ll talk about why later on.
    CAMERA:
As we all know  the iPhone 3G had a very bad camera with only 2 mega pixels, but now the new iPhone has a 3 mega pixel camera! The change of one mega Pixel does not seem like much of a change, but it really makes a difference. With this one mega pixel change it allows more features to it, like auto focus and the one that most of use jailbreak for, video recording! Auto focus is a very great feature because I remember quite a few times when took a picture it was too blurry and you could not see a thing. In video recording you can take better recordings than with Qik or what ever jailbroken recording app you used. So it is very good quality, but one that shocked me a bit was that you can edit the video strait from your device! With a scroll of a finger you can cut parts of the video just like the movie editing features in iMovie. Now you probably have a good idea of why there is no 8GB iPhone 3GS. With all these great features of video recording it takes up quite a bit of memory so there would be no point in getting an 8GB because your memory would be run out in a day.
    NEW APPS AND FEATURES:
With the first firmware of the iPhone to the 3.0 many new features have been added to this device. With the release of 3.0 it added:
-Cut/Copy/Paste, Witch allows you to cut/copy/paste text. We had this in the jailbroken world with “HClipboard” but it is no where near as good.
-Spotlight Search, Witch allows you to search for any thing on your device with an added page on the far left
-Landscape keyboard, Witch allows you to type in landscape mode any where that you can add text
-Voice memos, Witch allows you to record any thing you want, this is good for grocery lists and things like that
Now some features that the iPhone 3GS has that no other iPhone does:
-2X improved performance, this is a big improvement, I noticed a lot of times where my device would just be so slow no mater what I was doing it got bricked, now you can open any app faster than ever
-Built in video camera/editing, Witch as I said earlier it can record any video and can edit like the cropping features in iMovie
-Voice Control, Witch allows you to command your iPhone to do almost any thing, from calling some one to opening an app, this is a very great feature that is also on the new iPod Shuffle
-Compass, witch allows you to see a virtual compass tat tells your exact location with the GPS, and rotates with the accelerometer just like a real compass, you can choose from true north or magnetic north
These are all the new features added to 3.0 and the new iPhone 3GS.
-11 pages, with the original 9 page limit on the device I could hardly fit all the apps I wanted on it, but now with the iPhone 3GS you can have just about 159 more apps from the app store on the device
-Buy Movies strait on device-  You used to not be able to download movies and television shows on your device, but now you can! It’s as easy as buying a song, you can preview the show and purchase it with a tap of a finger
Wi-Fi Tethering- now you can share your contacts and almost any thing to your computer via Bluetooth or USB
-Call exit, Even if you’re on a call, you can press the Home button at any time to access the Home screen
-New settings, Make the iPhone display high contrast with the White on Black feature, Activate new accessibility features including the VoiceOver screen reader
    COLOR:
The original iPhone 1G came in only one color with an aluminum back. Then came the iPhone 2G witch introduced the plastic back with the white and black color. This brought the iPhone 3G’s back in stock, but now only one color is sold in the iPhone 3G, the black. The iPhone 3GS comes in the two original iPhone 3G colors.
    BATTERY LIFE:
    (iPhone 3GS;)
    -Talk time:
    Up to 5 hours on 3G;
up to 12 hours on 2G
    -Standby time:
    Up to 300 hours
    -Internet use:
    Up to 5 hours on 3G;
up to 9 hours on Wi-Fi
    -Audio playback:
    Up to 30 hours
    -Video playback:
    Up to 10 hours

    (iPhone 3G;)
    -Talk time:
    Up to 5 hours on 3G;
up to 10 hours on 2G
    -Standby time:
    Up to 300 hours
    -Internet use:
    Up to 5 hours on 3G;
up to 6 hours on Wi-Fi
    -Audio playback:
    Up to 24 hours
    -Video playback:
    Up to 7 hours

The “App Store” is going smart-phone!

    Everyting! 1 Comment »

It was a great day for the iPhone and iPod Touch in 2008 when Apple had first announced the “app store”. This app store was a little bit like iTunes where it held songs to purchase, but the app store worked just a little different. Instead of media it holds games, entertainment and all sorts of icons you can add to you device’s nine pages. There was not much in the app store until the Software Development Kit (SDK) was introduced to this community. The SDK provides every thin you need to build an application for your iPod or iPhone. It cost $99 if you are just starting and don’t know much about development, but if you are a big company like Amazon you want to get the $199 package to make a more complex app. Along with being able to make applications for the iPhone or iTouch you can create a desktop version to go with it, or you can create a desktop app all on it’s own. But every time Apple releases something new a competitor is always behind it. Just recently the new Blackberry Storm announced they have an “ap store” as well (I purposely spelled app with one “p” because that is how it is spelled on the Storm). Also some type of development program. But the Storm is not the only one, the Google Android has announced one too. So as you can see this so called app store is flooding every smart phone known to man, even the new Zune HD will be released with an app store.

If you don’t know much about the SDK don’t worry. It is easier than you think! It all has to do with the coding, coding is when you type in a certain command telling the application to do an action to that command. If you code wrong, some part or even all of your application will crash. There are some basic codes you will have to know before developing, I don’t know all of them but if you re interested check this amazing youtuber out: http://www.youtube.com/hdiphone, he has quite a few tutorials on how to give an app certain commends.

If you are still not convinced by now that developing apps is both easy and fun check this kid out. Lim Ding We is an eight year old Japanese boy that created an app called doodle kids. Doodle kids is a free and a fun FREE app to get. He got the inspiration for the app from his little sisters, they love to draw and he decided to make an app for them. Yes there are quite a few drawing apps out there but this one is very unique. As you draw the background color changes wit a mixture of colors, also as you place you finger on the screen every time you remove your finger the place it back on the drawing shape changes. The most unique thing about this app is that instead of drawing with a plane line you draw with shapes, like circles, triangles, rectangles and many more.

With all this talk about apps I have also decided to make written app reviews every week on Wednesdays (and if you are lucky on Fridays too). But don’t worry I will still be writing about latest news and rumors I can possibly find!
